Each month, carefully chosen wines meet their perfect literary companion.
At the BookCellar we believe that the only thing better a great book, is reading it a comfortable setting with a perfectly-paired drink.
If you aren’t able to visit our shop in Bristol to experience what the BookCellar is all about, our book and wine pairings are also available for home delivery.
Each month, our booksellers pick a title they think our customers will love from their favourite genres and then we work closely with local wine merchants to find a bottle that complements the tone, setting, ambiance or themes of the book.
Boxes are available as one-off deliveries or as a subscription paced to match your reading pace. Gift subscriptions can also be purchased to send a box for up to twelve months. And if you’re not a drinker, you are more than welcome to receive the book without the wine.
“Just once” boxes are sent straight away. Subscription boxes are sent at the start of the month. If you sign up before the 15th(ish) of the month you will receive your first box straight away, otherwise your first box will be sent next month. For gift subscriptions paid upfront, you can set the start date to be a future month.
We will send an email with next month’s pick around the 25th of the month, if you’ve already read the book you have a few days to let us know and we will find something else that pairs well with the wine.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you pair wines and books?
We work closely with our wine suppliers to handpick wines each month, and each pairing box comes with a pairing card, explaining our choice. Pairings come from many directions; tasting notes, colour, origin, winemaking methodology, and more. For a book about ethics and technology, we paired an organic wine made with modern wine methodology. For a book about hunger and desire, we paired a rich Plantadeta, sweet and velvety. For Samurai Detectives, we chose a Koshu wine grown in Japan.
What if I have already read/already own this month’s book?
We always try to pick new, interesting books that you might not have read yet, but just in case, we will send an email to everyone who has bought a box on the 25th of the month before we send it out. If you already own the book, get in contact with us at [email protected] before payment goes through on the 2nd, and one of our booksellers will choose an alternate book to pair with your wine.
Are your wines vegan?
Not all of our wines are vegan-friendly. Dietary information on specific wines can be provided on request, but unfortunately, due to the constraints of the pairing process, we cannot offer a vegan subscription.
What’s in each box?
You will receive the book, its paired wine, and a custom pairing card. The pairing card works as a bookmark, has tasting notes for the book and wine, and explains why we picked them to go together.
Do you offer international shipping?
We are only able to offer shipping to the UK.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Rolling subscriptions can be cancelled up to at least three working days before payment is taken on the 2nd, each month. Please contact us at [email protected] to adjust or cancel your subscription.
Can I buy this as a gift?
Absolutely! Just select “for someone else”, then make sure you provide their email and postal address in the marked fields of the form on checkout.
When will I receive my box?
We dispatch boxes on the 5th of the month, but we will keep taking orders until the 15th, and ship those orders as they come in. Our courier should take approximately 3 working days to get the boxes to you, and tracking codes can be provided on request.
